Heard about the accident on the highway this morning, so I went in on the city streets. On one of them I followed a pickup truck for quite a way -- he had something in the back that was long enough that the back was down. It wasn't until I caught up to him at a light that I realized that it was many many many long thin (2"?) strips of wood that would interlock. Don't know if it was flooring or something else. He had a bumper sticker: A man and his truck -- a beautiful thing.
Then, I wasn't paying close attention -- the light was red, I didn't think I had to -- but what I think happened is that the left turn light turned green, the pickup driver instinctively started to move, and he slammed into the van who had NOT started to move, since the light for going straight was still red. As they pulled into the gas station I saw no damage to the rear of the van, and I saw no extra fluids left on the road, so I expect there was little to no damage to the vehicles, and hopefully no damage to the people.
