We celebrate birthdays at my place of work. Each person brings in a treat for the next person in line. (Amusingly, I bring in treats for my boss, who used to have to bring in treats for her boss -- but a newer employee has interposed himself between them. As luck would have it, the person with a birthday at the end of April retired at the end of May, on the 27th providing a treat for R.) R. brought in a treat for J. today. She's having a milestone birthday, complete with black ribbons. She's turning **gasp** 40. One of the new-ish managers walked by and said "I'd better not still be working here when I turn 30."

If I could select "reversed" or circle-slashed modes for the moods, I'd have done that to "accomplished" today.

Speaking of retirees, I had to laugh today. One of our recent retirees, Geoff, sent a picture of his new (black) dog -- Geott.

I managed to make it through both my 30th and 40th birthday here, BOTH under the reign of the birthday party queen who loved to decorate the hell out of people's cubes on their birthdays. She's gone now and nobody makes that much of a fuss anymore; all that happens now is that the boss brings in a plate of cookies for everyones birthday, and sometimes people bring in leftover cake or whatever from their parties the next day.

I kinda like the food... but when they do the black balloons or stuff junk into the cube, and put up signs on all the entrances... well, I'm glad it's not me. When I hit 30 I was in a place that didn't celebrate. When I hit 40, thankfully either they didn't know or didn't care.
