The Evil Station

Several years back I listened to a particular public radio station, and proclaimed that it was the best one in the country, with only one other I had discovered in the same league. I supported it heavily.

Then they canceled a show I didn't really like, but they did it badly and I got a bad feeling about them... but they still carried Matt Watroba's "Folks Like Us" show, one that I loved with heart and soul, a show that one could say I lived for, so while I didn't forgive them, I remained faithful. Then they canceled that (and completely changed their programming). I was furious; even wrote them a letter explaining why, and dropped my support of them that year to a single-digit percentage of what it had been -- in gratitude for having had the show on earlier in the year. I started calling them "The Evil Station".

Here in the Ann Arbor area, we are blessed with many public radio stations, so I picked another. Shortly thereafter, a different station took on Folks Like Us, and I switched to that station, where I still am a member. But I would occasionally tune in to The Evil Station to catch Matt. And thus, I would still support them, although not at the same level I used to.

The. Bastards. Just. Did. It. Again.

This time they smartly waited until after I had cut my check to do it though. Last check they'll bloody get from me barring something completely unforeseen.

In other news, I'm about 2 weeks behind in reading LJ (again). Yes, I _will_ catch up, but I might not be reading everything as carefully as I would if I had time.

The transition from "let me brag about my local public radio station" to "I don't want to talk about it" as been a painful one. I'm sorry to have lost this cultural gem.

I only have one NPR station available to me. Fortunately I'm pretty pleased with their choices, but there's not much I could do about it if I weren't. Other than let my membership lapse.
