hey lady, is it plugged in?

Wednesday 10/7/2009 -- very frustrating morning.

I've been BUSY at work -- which means not even 10 minutes here and there to look at LJ & FB.

And I don't always get home early and competent enough to even read FB, so I've been taking at least 15 minutes in the morning to try to make headway in IYT, FB, LJ...

2 hours ago, a bit after noon I lost an IYT game because I'd run out of time. Hadn't been there for 2 days after my opponent played.

Yesterday morning, I'd been trying to catch up on the prior 10 pages worth of FB activity... I got through 5 of them when I ran out of time. It had been half an hour, not just 15 mins, and I was going to be late to work. Completely forgot about IYT.

This morning I got to the computer and it was quiet. No fan. Off. Wouldn't turn on . I learned later that there had been a wind storm going on overnight. Wonder if we took a power hit, and that did it. But I didn't see any of our other sensitive clocks flashing...

Hey lady, is it plugged in? I traced the cord to the 6-plug outlet I had, and it sure was. There was one open socket, though, so I unplugged it from the one and into the other. It finally came up. But with the AV stuff and all the other stuff that happens on boot, I didn't even have time to finish catching up to YESTERDAY morning at 8am.

Things got a little better once I got to work. A coworker had stopped by a market on the way in and brought us all some donuts & cider. It must be fall.

And I have just realized that I'm committed for Thursday night, Friday night (doubly -- there's the con, there's also a friend playing at a coffee-shop), all day Saturday, and some of Sunday. I hope I can get at least partially caught up tonight!

There were flickers, but no actual outage that I could detect.

BTW, I've just added fix Desktop to my list. Mine is still dead as of the last time I tried.

Depends on where you were. I had a blip around 4:13am in Saline (tripped the microwave and CPAP but no other devices that I could tell), and a coworker who lives near UM North Campus had a 3-hr outage between 2 and 5am.

We're south side of Ypsi (Twp). We have a "binary" clock that usually goes to flashing a pattern at the slightest blip -- even when the nuker and stove don't notice it. I'm now wondering if maybe the room with the clock and the room with the computer are on different *legs*, and only one of them went wonky.

Heh. I think I'm about to decommission my W2000 box...

It's always good to hear from you. I do not know what IYT stands for, but I am strongly of the opinion that Facebook and LiveJournal are there *for you* -- not "you for them." I try to stay caught up with LJ, but last February Louie and I spent six days on Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas, and with travel time, I was a week behind when I came home. I never did catch up, and flatly refuse to feel guilty about it. In any event, I hope you find a way of allotting your time so that it works for you, even if other people are making demands on your time, and remember that no matter what, you can't be in two places at once -- so pick the place you consider the higher priority, and then don't worry about it.

I would guess that IYT is Its Your Turn. An online human-vs-human boardgaming site.

Dagibbs is right, www.itsyourturn.com. You can choose how long you will allow your partners to take before playing (most of my games I only need to play once within 30 days of my opponent's last move) -- but I had a few 48 hour games going.

FB & LJ there for me not vice versa? Yeah... but I try to USE them. And I'm stubborn and tenacious, and some of the things I find myself catching up on are things that I want to know. I'm like the kid who doesn't want to go to bed and miss anything.

And really I'm more of a reader, a consumer, than I am a provider. So I want to do my thing. :-)

So where am I today? At a con. And what am I doing? Catching up on LJ. Course it's pre-breakfast, and I'm not quite ready for human interaction... and I DID spend time with people last night.

I was reading some article this morning that described what we do (the incessant running, trying to fit everything in, clean, etc.) as a sort of triage. Much of the time I feel like a battlefield nurse, having to pick among many wounded the most critical and do my best with what little resources I have...

I like that analogy. Not that I like the images, but it makes sense.

Hope life gets better soon.

Thanks.

At some point, I just give up on trying to stay "caught up". I post a note saying "I'm behind, what did I miss" and hope that if someone has something they really need from me, they'll tell me without me having to skim 20 pages of Facebook trivia to find it.

It's worked thus far... (fingers crossed)

And at some point I may realize that I just can't... but I'm too stubborn now. And I've somehow always managed to catch up. Eventually. I may get there. But I keep hoping that if I can make it a habit, that I will be able to not get so far behind, and then it'll just be easier. (Most of the time at work there are small (2-minute?), occasional times when I can't get started on anything new, but I'm waiting on something to finish, and that's about perfect to scan the stuff that's come in in the last n hours. (For very small values of n.))
