Nature & the gremlins are winning

Mowed a bit today. All around the front -- and probably 1/3 of the back. It's always easier the 2nd time. Had to stop not because of the charge, but because of the wet ground near where the sump dumps -- I've diverted it, and maybe tomorrow I'll be able to mow there.

Have been watching the 2-foot diameter mound of dirt, and have finally seen activity. Red ants. I have 4 or 5 other mounds, one of which has no grass on it, but, while it's larger, I've not seen its residents.

Managed to move the 4 items blocking it & haul out the small ladder, so I can pull the trees growing in the gutter... but then I thought that while I'm up there I really need to pull the nice compost that grew there first... but the best way to do it is to get a bucket or something so I don't have to climb the ladder (which I'm not good at) with every handful. I can't find my red bucket. I can't find my yellow bucket. At least the yellow one "lives" in the bathroom, but it's not there. Hmph.

On a good front, my tree, planted from seedling -- about 15 years old and more feet than that tall -- seems to be doing well -- although I'll need to clip off the low branches "soon" (when it gets cold). What I don't know is if I should also clip off the smaller of the 2 trunks that start about 2 inches off the ground... I'm inclined to leave it, but I don't know what's best for the tree.

One of our fences (between us & a neighbor) is broken, and some tree branches are poking through. The flower/fruit/??? looks like pussy-willow.

I have a ton of things to do -- including backing up 3 different hard drives... but I don't know if I have enough DVDs -- I mean, I know I do, but I put a bunch in a box, leaving only 2 boxes in the "active" area of my room, and I don't remember where the stockpile is.

It's tempting to just blow it all off and drink heavily, but I need to leave in just over 2 hours, so I guess that notion is right out. :-)

In a win, I spent way too much on champagne cork pliers, but since I've been defeated by those before, often at the cost of bodily harm to myself, I am happy to report that they work! I dug into some n/a bubbly we've had for over a dozen years, and it is yummy!

Today will be a gardening day for me, too, though I don't have the same tasks that you have. I just bought another half-dozen perennials to fill in the gaps in the front garden, and I have weeds to dig up in the back (they're too big and the roots are to stubborn to pull them up). I'm hoping that after I finish the planting, since I'm in my gardening clothes anyway I'll be motivated to just keep going and get some of the less immediately rewarding work done.
