Didn't much like what the radio said this morning.

The worst news was that further west than I go, in the eastbound direction, the highway is still closed. They've just re-opened the westbound direction. Bad accident in the wee hours (2:20?) involving 3 semis, one of whom crossed the median and hit another head on. The third one hit the wreckage, and then one of them burst into flame. One survivor is at UM Hospital.

And then, as I was shutting the car down to come in to work, I heard that they're tearing down the Ann Arbor Public Library. Granted, they're building a new one, but that building has been part of my life for 35 years. Less so since they told me that as a non-resident I'd need to spent 20 dollars a year to maintain a card, but it's always sad for me when buildings are taken down. Especially ones where I've attended concerts.

Apparently it "began" at 1:30am.

I probably heard 1:20 on the radio and mis-remembered it. Regardless, a whole lot of no fun.

$20/year for a non-resident card, at a library like the AADL, is cheap! in Macomb County, where i used to work, non-resident cards were $200/year.

*wow* That's quite a chunk of change.
Course I haven't checked in a decade or so -- and I almost never used the facility, I just liked the idea of maintaining the card.

Heh. And John drove to work today (L had early band today), and had to go from Chelsea proper (not north of town) to Dexter. He took the back, back roads.... I expect there were band kids trickling in all morning and school buses running late.

Ugh. I'll bet you're right. (And then this morning I heard there was another 3-vehicle accident in about the same place. Not quite so bad, I expect.)

It is sad when a building that you love is torn down. Even if it's not a pretty building--and most libraries are pretty buildings, as well as book repositories.

Well, it's not that pretty. Kind of boxy, really. But it's a piece of history, and even if I Really Love what they put up in its place (I heard they're re-building on the same site, and that all of their books will be in storage and requestable -- just not browsable) there will be a part of me that still misses the old.
