This morning on the way to work my nearly-15-year-old car passed 240,000 miles.

No, I didn't get to watch. :-(

I always have fun polling my students to see if anyone has a moon car. Generally one or two do in a term, though they hadn't put all those miles on themselves.

One of these days I'll have to figure out how Cafe Press works, and send them a design for a moon car bumper sticker.

I won't be happy until I've made the return trip as well.

I'm hopin'. (Of course, if you do that on your prime vehicle I shall surely bow to you.)

If it weren't a prime vehicle I wouldn't have a chance of doing it. Heck, I only put about 10K a year on my primary vehicle, and it's only at 128K. That means it'll take 38 years to get to 500,000 miles. I probably won't even be able to buy gasoline in 40 years, nor do I expect that it will be legal to drive a vehicle with 1997 level emissions before then either.

Dude, I think she means your bike! No gasoline needed....

...or at least, I'll surely bow to you if you ride your bike that many miles.

Oh, OK. Yeah, I'm only doing between 5k and 6k a year on the bike. Hopefully I can increase that after I retire though...

A few people have crossed the US on every Adventure Cycling route (there are at least three). A few have done all the national park tour routes. Then there are appalacian trail, pacific coast, and a bunch of other routes. I wonder if anyone's done all of their routes? I wonder how many miles that would be?

(color me dense, BTW (what color is dense?) as usual). People must remember to use a cluebat on me at all times.

I think it's a black-on-black paisley... the sort that makes on tip ones head to the side, blink a lot and start to twitch...

(Yeah, I meant the bike)

The car had 105 miles on the odometer when I picked it up -- It had been driven from Saginaw to Ann Arbor. I figure that the miles Clark has put on my beastie are probably balanced by the miles that I have put on his, and the miles that other folks have driven my car is in the realm of "noise".

Very cool. So far my record is 278K miles before I got rid of a car. I got 246K out of the one before that. These days I drive much less in a given year, so those numbers will take much longer to attain with the current car, which is just over 50K.
