how to vote
Think you know who to vote for? Not so fast. Make sure you are voting for the candidate that actually agrees with you on the issues you think are most important.

Check out:

http://www.votehelp.org

You can answer up 28 questions about the issues, and rate the issues in terms of importance. Then, the site shows you on which issues McCain and Obama agree and disagree with you (and ranks the issues based on how important you say the issues are).

Interesting... The candidate I do not support it still said I supported just under 75%... and there actually was one issue where the my candidate fared less well than the other.

I'm a 92% match for Obama, 60% for McCain.

Another difference is, the things that I put down different from Obama, I'm not all that strongly against him on; they were things I don't think are high priorities at this time, or I am not very well informed on so I am willing to listen to counter-arguments and be persuaded otherwise.

The things I put down different from McCain, I'm very strongly at odds with his position and am not likely to be persuaded otherwise. Further, his statements of why he's in favor of some of these things is based upon faulty logic or outright misdirection (IMHO).

Similar here. One thing that depresses me is that, on a lot of issues, they are both taking the same position that I disagree with.

Well, perhaps not a "lot", but there were several instances of that in my score too. I think there were even a couple where they both agreed.

Hmm. 85.66% for one, 75.84% for the other. Which shows me that a) there's barely a dime's worth of difference between the two once you get past a short list of high profile issues, and/or b) I'm a wishy-washy centrist.

Not that it really matters who I vote for this time. You live in a swing state that could go either way. I live in a state where one candidate isn't even bothering to campaign.

I'm a moderate. Trust me, you can't be wishy-washy and stay that; both sides attack rabidly, labeling you an "extremist." :-)

True, but for that to have an effect on my opinions I'd have to care what they think.

True, but for that to have any effect on me I'd have to care about what they think of me. (sorry for the double post, LJ keeps logging me out)

Yeah, it says I agree 85.75% with Obama and 76.61% with McCain. I can't stand either of them. And looking at the details, it counts as agreeing on things they give lip service to with a lot of "But..."s.
